The Town of Hardwick operates under the provisions set forth in a town voter and Vermont state
legislature-approved municipal charter. In the field of municipal government, the Town of Hardwick
is a Town Manager form of government. A Town elected Select Board hires the Town Manager. The
Select Board is the board of directors, and the manager is the Chief Executive Officer who carries out
the policies established by the Select Board, to whom the Manager is responsible. The Manager
performs all duties prescribed by the Town Charter, required by the laws of the State of Vermont or
by resolution of the Select Board.
The Town Manager is responsible for the operation of all departments as designated by the Select
Board and the town manager’s office staff performs the many administrative, financial and
miscellaneous functions and services as incorporated in the Town Charter.
The Town Manager’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited too:
Budgeting Risk Management
Financial Reporting Oversight of Public Works
Administration of the system of accounts Purchasing
Economic Development Policies and ordinances
