West Hill School
The West Hill (District #4) Schoolhouse is one of two historic
buildings owned by the Cabot historical society. It was built in
1854 and was used as a one room schoolhouse until the fall
session of 1918. After that time it was used by the town of Cabot
for various purposes and later was rented by the town for private
use.

In 1975 at Town Meeting the town voted to sell the school house
to the historical society for $1. The society then began a
restoration project to return it to usable condition.

In 1999, under the supervision of J. David Book, Cabot's principal
and Heritage teacher, 15 local students began a second project
of restoration which was designed to return the school, through
physical modifications, replica furniture, original textbooks from
the 1800's and teaching equipment, to conditions that best
resembled its original state.

The schoolhouse is used at times by the Cabot school for
classroom teaching to let students learn, while in actual
surroundings, what life in a one room schoolhouse was like.
